Who AIM Serves

Crime is a problem that affects everyone. Children with mothers in prison are five times more likely to end up in prison. Finding these children and strengthening them to inspire hope for a better life is work that benefits everyone. Because of limited resources, AIM is able to make a larger impact by focusing on the areas in Georgia with the highest percentage of mothers in prison: Dekalb and Fulton counties, home to 15% of Georgia's female inmates. This focus means that a majority of our program participants are currently people of color.

Nationwide, we reach even more families by using our nearly two decades of success on this issue to help all communities provide the best support to every family affected by incarceration. Research has shown that diverse and culturally relevant programming is more effective in engaging children of all ethnic groups. AIM provides culturally relevant programming to teach the children academic subjects, self-respect, and responsibility to each other and to society. AIM's efforts in this area have brought us national recognition.
